Kevin Jonas Fakes a Smile or Contempt?

Aug. 28, 2010 - New York, New York, U.S. - KEVIN JONAS OF JONAS BROTHERS.at Arthur Ashe Kids's Day at the USTA Billie Jean King.National Tennis Center at Tennis US OPen 8-28-2010 . 2010.K66199JBB. © Red Carpet Pictures

Whenever we see a facial expression that is not equal on both side of the face- notice how one side of his mouth could be raised higher than the other, this is usually a sign of faked emotion.  Given that we can see more teeth on the side of the face that is angled away, this is contempt.  It is only a little tougher with Jonas, because I don't think I have seen him give a real smile and ofter his lips are only subtly showing movement.◦

Contempt in Blackjack = $$

Grand Opening Of Aria Resort & Casino At CityCenter

Written by Guest Contributor "Scarlett"
A Natural

My name is Scarlett and I recently went to Vegas on vacation. Blackjack is one of my favorite games to play and little did I know I could make some money off of my natural ability of reading people. While I enjoy playing, I also enjoy watching. I was there with my boyfriend and we were on a bit of a bad luck streak, so I let him play while I watched. This particular dealer passed out the cards, revealing a 10 for himself. As the other players groaned, I watched the dealer look at his facedown card using his viewer. When he saw the card, he showed contempt. Interested, I watched how the hand played out. Most of the players had 16s or 17s. Then the dealer turned over his hidden card, a Jack. No one won and the dealer showed sadness for taking everyone's money. This showed me that his contempt was for his own hand, having a good one that beat all of the others. It could have been taken the opposite as well....there are some dealers in Vegas that love to help the players out and are on their side, while others show no mercy when they get blackjack three times in a row. This guy was clearly not one of them.

With this discovery, I whispered to my boyfriend what I saw. On the next hand, the dealer dealt himself a 10. When he looked at his hidden card he did not show contempt. I told my boyfriend to stand on a 16. The dealer turned over a 3, then busted with a facecard. Success! Within an a few hours we had racked up $300.

So what did I learn? First, when a dealer is looking at their facedown card, quickly glance at the other players. They are eagerly staring at the dealer's hands, waiting in anticipation to see if he flips over an ace and ends the hand with a blackjack. Look at the dealer's face! Next, you have to determine what kind of dealer he is, one that is on the side of the players or isn't. Play it to your advantage either way!◦

Survivor Samoa Episode 9 Another Great Tribal Council

Look at the intensity in Erik's eyes, watch how he holds his gaze for longer than would be normal. Then from the get go we get the fist pump, but this is not the fist pump for joy like we see from Tiger Woods when he sinks a putt, no this is acting out of anger. Then see Shambo gives us the microexpression of contempt.

When Jeff asks the old tribe about feeling welcome, notice how all three (you can see Russell is also in this stance) four are holding their hands clasped(about 2:30 into the video) this is a sign they are unwilling to talk openly. At 2:48 we see the elegant subtle expression of fear- look at her wide open eyes.

At 3:30 watch Jeff touch his nose when Jeff is asking him about his days being numbered. It could be that there was a piece of dirt there, but it also could be that he knew they were safe this evening. There are four nerve endings on the bridge of our noses that become irritated when we are under stress.

Timeout, I know everybody hates Russell, I was right there in the beginning, but let me tell you he played it perfectly when others were voting. Gazing to members of the other tribe, he was reading them...confirming they were voting for him... making sure they had to look away...

When Russell stands up to play the idol, watch it several times. You will see microexpressions of surprise, sadness, and fear at exactly 6:36.

Just enjoy the rest of the video...but I will leave with you with one thing that I cannot figure out, Dave. Watch him and he never shows negative gestures and body language at the prospect of what is occurring, he only shows surprise but no fear, sadness, no anger...◦

Survivor Samoa Episode 8

0:08 We see contempt, moving one side of her mouth to the side.

2:05 We see Monica shrug with only one shoulder.

2:07 We see Erik raise his eyebrows and you can see lines laterally across his forehead, this is sarcasm as she says you never know who to trust.

2:28 Erik begins speaking and once again alienates himself again because he is over confident. If you are a someone who wants to play the game of Survivor, watch the reaction of the others (especially from his old tribe) this should have been a clue to him of what was coming. If you make it on the show, watch the reactions at the tribal consoles! Shrugs, lick licking and lip piercing, and the micro expression of disgust can all be seen.

3:01 Russell answers the question well to start with, but he should not have said that Erik will be surprised. Russell's biggest liability is his pride (in his game)gets in the way and he reveals too much.

Had Erik paid more attention to reactions of others, especially his former tribe members he might have realized his fate, and may have played the idol. I even saw one former tribe member walk more slowly to the area where you write the votes... everything matters.

Then fast forward to the reading of the votes, study Erik... you can see him thinking and understanding. Watch the emotion drain from his face, thinking, ever so subtle sadness in his mouth and subtle surprise in his eyes.

Watch the others react as he leaves: shame, happiness, sadness, and contempt.◦

Survivor Samoa Episode 5 Tribal Council

For my money Survivor Tribal Council is some of the best 5-10 minutes on television as it relates to topics I explore on this site. The contestants are brought together and are interviewed by the host, and as with any reality television show with producers, the host is asking some sensitive questions that strikes to the core of their relationships with each other, their strategy to win a million dollars, and any and all touchy topics. Last night was no exception and a great learning opportunity for us.

1:42 Jaison is asked about his toughest thing he ever gone through and when he says that he played for the U.S. National Water Polo Team, watch how he sits up straight straight, proud.

Generally watch how people look down as others are answering questions. This can have several meanings, some of which include dislike for the speaker, shame, and thinking are among some of the reasons we see here.

3:30 Look at Ashley and how she ever so subtly rolls her eyes at Russell as he explains "who he can trust." Then watch in the next 12 seconds as both women shows us the elegant microexpression of contempt.

3:45 Ashley is asked a question and she sways her legs back and forth. This is likely nervousness at having to answer the question and a little bit of adrenaline as she is put on the spot.

4:00 See Ashley's elbow shrug, which is always a sure sign of indecisiveness. See the subtle contempt expression from Russell and the one eyebrow raise, had she seen this expression she should have known Russell should not be trusted.◦

Here Connolly stands with his hands in front of the "jewels" because it makes him feel more secure. You may have seen this protective posture when soccer players line up during a penalty kick. Connolly feels vulnerable and assumes this position to create feelings of comfort and reassurance.

Connolly is also showing subtle contempt, by raising one side of his mouth.◦
