Sex-Abuse Trial of Tonya Craft Featured on The Today Show

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

April 29: A former kindergarten teacher is on trial, accused of molesting three young girls. Michelle Kosinski reports and NBC legal analyst Dan Abrams weighs in on the case that has rocked a small Georgia community.

When I watch the interview with Tonya Craft I am troubled from a Statement Analysis perspective. I also see at least one hot spot.

I would really like to see more interview footage of Tonya before telling you my impressions, so if you know of some please let me know either by posting a comment or clicking on the contact me at the bottom of the web page. Since Tonya was accused two years ago, her speech patterns and explanations could be "poisoned" because she has had to say the same thing over and over again- this can lead to a more practiced "speech" and cliches -that often are statement analysis hot spots- creep into their normal "speech."◦

Dancing with the Stars reject Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower Are Saying a Great Deal with thier Body Language

Dancing with the Stars reject Jake Pavelka and his former dance partner Chelsie Hightower still smiling as they pay a visit to Live with Regis and Kelly

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - Thursday April 29 2010. Dancing with the Stars reject Jake Pavelka and his former dance partner Chelsie Hightower still smiling as they pay a visit to Live with Regis and Kelly . The The Bachelor star and his partner were voted off the popular ABC show Tuesday night after falling into the bottom two with their samba and group swing performances.

Couple of things stand out:

We point our feet in the direction we'd like to be going and her feet are interesting.

I also see her entire body is in the shape of a 'C' where her feet and head are about as far as you can get away from Jake.

Likely the appearance is contractually obligated to help publicize Dancing with the Stars, but I think it is clear that she is not a 'fan' of the latest bachelor...

While I did not see the show (except for small bits and pieces) I'd be interested in your thoughts- my guess- this couple did not have chemistry...◦

It is also a study in statement analysis, listen carefully to every question he is asked and notice how he does not directly answer the question, and the exact words he uses when answering- unfortunately this is similar to so many politicians and Public Relations people when dealing with conflict.

Finger Pointing to the Crowd

You will usually see this gesture used by politicians, especially when entering the stage in front of a crowd. they all do it to appear they are connected and actually see someone they know, which is usually not the case. It just makes for a good photo op.

Here we see it on the red carpet, which is a bit unusual because photographers are not usually yelling hey point at me, they are just making noises and saying things like 'over here' so they get a good shot of the star looking into the camera.

Mimicking is likely going on, where one of the stars starting doing this and the other follow suit. Mimicking gestures is a way to build up a bond if you are doing this with someone you are talking and interacting with; in this case it is likely the coolest of the group started doing it and the others joined in...

Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life

"Dacher Keltner is professor of psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, director for the Greater Good Science Center, and coeditor of "Greater Good" magazine. His research deals mainly on pro-social emotions, power, and moral reasoning.

"Keltner extends the insights of Charles Darwin about short emotional language as a very important clue to understand our origins. He was also a follower of Paul Ekman and Wallace Friesen. He follows their methodology to quantify milliseconds movements of muscles in the face.

"Following further the research of Paul Ekman in New Guinea related to the universality of human facial expressions, Keltner regards emotions as symbols of our pledge to others and the basis of our most vital moral/ethical insight." - A.Ch.F. Weizmann, Ph.D., Haifa University

“A landmark book in the science of emotions and its implications for ethics and human universals.” —Library Journal, starred review In this startling study of human emotion, Dacher Keltner investigates an unanswered question of human evolution: If humans are hardwired to lead lives that are “nasty, brutish, and short,” why have we evolved with positive emotions like gratitude, amusement, awe, and compassion that promote ethical action and cooperative societies? Illustrated with more than fifty photographs of human emotions, Born to Be Good takes us on a journey through scientific discovery, personal narrative, and Eastern philosophy. Positive emotions, Keltner finds, lie at the core of human nature and shape our everyday behavior—and they just may be the key to understanding how we can live our lives better. 60 photos.◦

U.S. President Barack Obama during the Pledge of Allegiance

Obama Speaks At Naturalization Ceremony For Military Personnel

U.S. President Barack Obama places his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem prior to a ceremony for the administration of a military naturalization oath in the Rose Garden of the White House April 23, 2010 in Washington, DC. Obama spoke, in part, on immigration issues following the ceremony.

We place our hand over our heart when saying the Pledge of Allegiance to show our deepest feelings for the country.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by a Baptist minister,Francis Bellamy who wrote the original Pledge in August 1892. Slight some word changes have occurred since then- but holding your hand over the heart has been done since the beginning of it being used in government situations.

Whenever we use routine gestures, such as holding our hand over our heart when we state the pledge or during the National Anthem we need to be sure to hold our hand directly over our heart.◦

Do Not Make A Mistake With This Microexpression

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Please watch the above video and pay attention to the microexpression that the young woman does at the end of most of her sentences.

This is not the microexpression of happiness or joy. When we inwardly pucker the corners of our lips, it is a sign that we could speak more about the topic, but prefer to not. It is a way to physically "lock down" our lips so that we cannot speak. It could be showing a certain amount of control depending on the context.

It could easily be confused with the microexpression of happiness or joy, and if that occurs it could be extremely problematic, because then you may interpret it as a hot spot- which it is not.

This victim is a great example of someone who emotionally is still affected by the events of that night several years ago. I ran across the video when I learned the remains of 25-year-old Laura Garza of Brooklyn were identified yesterday. If you watch the entire video below, notice the young woman's intensity when describing the events.

Bret Michaels' Publicist Rather Obviously Lets Information Slip

Bret Michaels in Critical Condition After Suffering Brain Hemorrhage

Singer Bret Michaels is in critical condition suffering from a brain hemorrhage, his publicist Joann Mignano said. Michaels the former Poison frontman was rushed to intensive care late Thursday after a severe headache. Doctors discovered bleeding at the base of his brain stem. The 47-year-old glam-rock reality TV star had an emergency appendectomy at a private care facility for diabetics last week after complaining of stomach pains before he was scheduled to perform in San Antonio, Texas. Michaels is currently a contestant on the third season of Donald Trump's NBC competitive reality show, The Celebrity Apprentice. Trump said in a statement Friday that he was deeply saddened to hear of Michaels' condition. File Photo: 10 January 2010 - Pasadena, California - Bret Michaels. NBC Universal Press Tour Cocktail Party held at the Langham Hotel.

Information has been slow to be released, and up until this point the public only knew he was in a hospital and was in critical condition, and he had spoken a few words.

Never was any of the effects detailed, and so now it is interesting from a statement analysis perspective.

His publicist said, "We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which still has not been located. As we all know, Bret is a fighter, and we are hopeful that once all is complete, the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc., will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal."

For someone who makes his current living in front of the cameras on reality shows this is a bombshell. Publicists should know what to say and how to say, and we have no reason to think this publicist is a moron. So now we have to look at how the information was released. It was done in a casual manner, as if we already knew this information; in a subtle way so it lessons the impact. It can take away the value as a emotional or energized statement.

It is a good lesson for us. Think back to having to convey some bad information and how it is so natural to blurt it out- now think of ways you could have said it differently... it is a skill that avoids the "don't kill the messenger" concept.◦

Boxing: The Official Weighing-In and Why Emotions and Gestures Matter

Men's boxing - Universum Champions Night

Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany - epa02129145 WBO cruiserweight world champion German Juergen Braehmer (L), of boxing team Universum-Boxstall Hamburg and contender Mariano Nicolas Plotinsky (R) from Argentina pose for photographers during the official weighing-in for the Universum Champions Night in Hamburg, Germany, 23 April 2010.

Since the beginning of boxing there has been betting and the official weigh-in was an opportunity to gauge each fighter and the gamblers wanted to get a "read' on the opponents before placing their bets. They are looking for fear, dominance, etc.

We have become more civilized over time, and some of the weigh-ins are strictly business and I have actually seen smiles on the faces of boxers, which would have been unheard of 10-20 years ago.

Like two dogs meeting on the street they need to feel each other out and assert their dominance over their opponent, and this often would lead to neither backing down. It was a huge mind game, where the results of the weigh-in could actually mentally give one boxer an advantage.

Why would U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke Constantly Need to Protect the Jewels?!?!

In body language lingo it is often called a fig leaf, usually seen while standing. Hands coupled and/or held in front of ones genitals is a huge protection sign. According to one of my body language dictionaries, the fig leaf posture by either sex is a closed body position. It blocks the private mid section from view. This posture occurs by placing one or both hands in front of the crotch blocking it from view. The hands are usually clasped together. It shows insecurity and occurs when someone is in a novel environment or around people they don’t know and aren’t familiar with.

Tiffany Tehan Found!!!

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Great news, it turns out she just ran away with the other man. We now know why he laughed and smiled. He knew she would be found with this other man. The micro laughter was likely nervous laughter that people do under incredible stress. It is still a hotspot and is done unconsciously.

Just because we see something that seems out of place, and mention it, is not the same as accusing someone of a crime. (I understand that it would be implied because of the name of the blog.) When we see a microexpression it doesn't mean they are lying. I'm very clear when I see things I mention they should be examined further. In this case, I said if it turns out that someone is murdered that is when the husband's behavior should come into question.

When we see an emotion or microexpression we never know why it is appearing on the other person- that is where, as an investigator we would ask why... never jump to conclusions, just learn to spot the hotspots, then ask, then you have more knowledge and are closer to the truth.

We see David show more emotion in the above video than when she was missing. This makes sense to me. When he believes she is with another man he is more removed from her emotionally; now that she is found and not with the other man, he is showing more emotion to let his wife know he understands and he is willing to be supportive.

We also have seen David over the course of several days and know his "baseline" includes generally more pleasant and happy go lucky personaility and facial expressions. I believe, like a person I knew, who I mentioned in the previous post, when faced with difficult situations David "puts on a happy face" to appear stronger.

Very interesting incident from the perspective of the content of this web site.◦

BREAKING STORY: NEW MISSING PERSON- Where's Tiffany Tehan? I hope the police fully investigate the husband

The family (and detective) hit the talk shows this morning...

I have seen her husband, David Tehan on two different interview shows, and I find the emotions he is showing a bit odd. I once knew a person who always had a smile plastered on his face, even when he told me about his son having to go to the hospital earlier in the morning due to a serious hand injury, some people literally take their parents seriously when they tell us kids to "put a smile on your face" and never remove them...

Emotionally he is not sad, confused, concerned, or any of the typical emotions we'd normally see from a husband whose wife is missing- or even anger if he believes she left with this other man- while he is not playing the emotional card that so many husbands, who we later learn had something to do with their wife's disappearances have, his casual attitude and pleasant facial expressions are a bit out of the ordinary.

At 1:12 A hotspot when he says it is a mystery to me. He immediately gives us a micro laugh. What is funny about this? Could it be because it is not a mystery to him?!?!?

At around 1:43 when the detective says, "...unable to find her," David's smile actually grows subtly.

A 'Natural' I work with also caught that he never uses the other guy's name, uses distancing language like "this man," and "this person."

Capt. Scott Anger did look at Scott while answering certain questions on The Today Show that were sensitive. If you search for the video online I think you will see the same David that you see in the above video.

Now everybody is going on the assumption that she ran away with this other man, who happened to take 2k out of a bank account he shared with his wife; but if this turns out to lead to the murder of one or two people, the emotions of the husband need to be examined further.◦

Authorities in Tennessee Question Misty Croslin's Relative About Haleigh's Disappearance | Firstcoastnews.com | Local News

After the late night telephone interview, authorities started searching a stretch of a river near the location where Haleigh went missing. The attorney for the relative was confident that his client was not involved. Another interesting thing is I believe Ronald was working on a bridge project the night she disappeared, but I do not know the location of the bridge project.

Pure speculation on my part, could this be another one of those horrible cases where a child dies (somewhat accidentally- at least that was not their intention to kill the child) and they made some idiotic and poor decisions to cover up the accident. Could Ronald have taken his dead daughter's body to work that night and disposed of the body in the river?◦
