Actress Anna Paquin attends the Audi Golden Globes Celebration with Nominee Anna Paquin at the Sunset Tower Hotel on January 10, 2010 in West Hollywood, California.
Whenever we see a non symmetrical facial expression it is likely not a display of real emotion and it is likely it is a faked emotion, as we see here in this picture.◦

How can I tell the difference between a faked emotion and contempt?
Yea that is what I was going to ask aswell. This also looks like contempt.
This is in my opinion not a fake smile, but disgust (raising of upper lip) and contempt (unilateral). Not a fake smile, because intuition (bad word in science :D) and reasoning: an actor can put op a much better polite smile than this one. In fact, most people won't put up a fake smile like this. Too much a symmetrical.
I agree with Sander, it is the slightest disgust. It is a difficult picture to "read" because of the way she normally speaks includes a little bit of moving her upper lip up.
Anything that is shown on only one side of the face (except contempt) or stronger on one side than the other is likely faked, provided there are not other medical reasons for the difference.
