The Neck Scratch

Young Woman

Scratching the side of your neck is a sign of doubt or uncertainty and is very noticeable to others when you are saying something you not not believe in your words.

You will now be able to catch the contradiction when the words are not matching the gesture.

Scratching your neck is like eating potato chips, you cannot scratch just once...◦

I see this gesture almost everyday from politicians. They are symbolically holding an issue or problem in their hands.

Here are a few more that were shown in the last week...

Geithner Testifies Before House Financial Services Committee

Harry Reid Discusses Health Care Reform Bill With "Opt-Out" Public Option

WASHINGTON - OCTOBER 26: Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) holds a news conference to announce the inclusion of the 'public option' in the Senate's version of the health care reform legislation October 26, 2009 in Washington, DC. Reid said that states would be able to opt out of the public option until 2014. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images)

My advice to those who use this gesture is, as you are talking about the issue, slowly bring your hands together, it will convey you have control over the issue, then clasp your hands together symbolically squishing the problem.

God Help Me

Teen on Fire

Jesus Mendez, age 15, appeared in juvenile court, Wednesday, October 14, 2009, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, at the Broward County Courthouse. Mendez was charged with aggravated battery and attempted second-degree murder for participating in setting a 15-year-old boy on fire. (Joe Cavaretta/Sun Sentinel/MCT) Photo via Newscom

Several Boys have been charged in this terrible crime... Having looked at each of the boys this particular boy was not the leader, but unfortunately went along with it.

This gesture is not well documented. There could be several reasons why we would look up- athletes often give thanks or recognition to God (or a family member that they believe is in heaven) when doing something well on the field of competition.

In this particular case, everything it out of his control, and he is stressed and perhaps looking for Divine intervention.◦
