Kyron Horman disappeared on June 4, 2010, the stepmom (Terri Moulton Horman) dropped him off at school, took a picture of him in front of his school science project, yet Kyron was report absent for the day.

Kaine Horman was granted a restraining order against his soon-to-be ex-wife, Terri Moulton Horman, to keep her away from their 18-month old daughter, Kiara!!!
I wrote an article about the likelihood that he was abducted after his mom left, I based that on these deductive reasoning concerning the facts that were known at the time:
- If police suspect a family member they encourage media interaction and interviews with the family; this often leads to more evidence and inconsistencies with previous statements.
- During the press conference with the family, police officers were "on stage" with the family. This is usually a sign that they are supportive of the family and do not suspect them to be involved. Furthermore what would be the purpose of the press conference? What were they hoping to learn? It is possible they used it as an excuse to allow them more interaction with the stepmom; possibly gauge her interaction with the rest of the family?
- I simply did not think someone could be so cold blooded and at the same time be a meticulous planner to be able to take the child to school, photograph the child, and then leave the school with the child, and then presumably kill the child; especially since there was no evidence that suggested that the relationship with the husband was strained or she had a problem with the child- in fact the family was supportive of the stepmother up until the last 36 hours. What would be her motivation for wanting the child dead? Did the police tell the other family members to continue to appear to be supportive of her as they collected evidence?
- I'll say it again, meticulous planner!!! For her to leave the school with Kyron unnoticed there was not an altercation at the school where she became enraged and wanted the child dead. Knowing she should take a picture at school, knowing there would be other parents in the school, knowing to say she last saw him in the hallway as he was walking to his classroom? Is it possible she had been planning this for some time?
While she has not been arrested up to this point, everything now suggests that there is a strong possibility that she is involved. It would take some sort of dissociative personality to do something like this. There is some part of this ordeal we are unaware of that will come out in the end.
The police are either genus or dupes, and are working from a psychological perspective (what we see and hear is smoke and mirrors from the family and authorities) attempting to elicit more information and evidence to gain a conviction.◦

Michael Jackson was known for holding up the peace gesture, what is interesting about this time is while at trial he does not hold it up as confidently as he usually does- his fingers are bent. This could have several meaning...
I do not know if I have ever commented on his guilt or innocence of the charges on this blog? I'll cut to the chase: He was guilty of inappropriate contact with children. His defense was he "never hurt a child" or "could never hurt a child," "I love children." This is very true, but is still illegal under the eyes of the law. Abuse and the abuser usually do not have contact that "feels bad" and certainly does not "hurt" in cases where the child is groomed for physical contact. Did you know that the exhilarating rush you get from riding roller coasters releases the same chemical in our brain as sex does? For children this can be confusing; Neverland Ranch was probably a very confusing place for every guest and visitor.
In the book Crime Signals the author discusses a similar case where a grown man offered fast rides on his motorcycle to get boys excited, touched them on their legs while riding, then later abused them because they were familiar with certain feelings (that mimic sexual feelings) in the presence of this man.
Jackson himself admitted to being sexually abused, and his less than ordinary life lead him to become peers with children. To him he was just one of the boys, and it was consensual sex, where both partners are freely and willingly agreeing, or consenting, to whatever sexual activity is occurring. In his mind there was nothing wrong with his actions, but we all know this is an area where the bending of reality does not excuse inappropriate contact with a minor and the experience(s) forever changes a child's personality and life.
He never directly denies the allegations in any interview or statement given. If you are interested search the Internet with his name and statement analysis...

Gerry McCann's Denial of the use of Cold Medicine

David wrote me and asked me to take a look at the above short video- and it is a good one!
There is something we always say when looking for deception- CLUSTERS one "hotspot" does not make a liar, but when we see three or more things that do not match what is being said we have a good idea that there is deception.
Gerry states that he is not going to comment then proceeds to comment- there are limits to what he is willing to say. Why is he placing limits on what he is willing to say?
Whenever someone uses words like "absolutely" when denying something we are put on guard. When someone feels the need to "pump up" their denial they are not confident in what they are saying. A honest person could simply say no....
When answering he is not looking directly at the interviewer and actually turns his head away, but notice the eye dart to the interviewer- people will do this to check how their lies are being accepted. When lying we need to gauge if we need to be more on guard, or if confrontation is likely, or if we are getting away with the lie...
Then he touches his ear. I have seen this many times when someone is saying something -or hearing something- they do not like to hear. He doesn't like hearing his answer.
His wife is also not acting confident, or outraged by the question... she is guarded.◦

As we all know it is always important whenever the hands rise above the shoulders, but touching the neck is particularly important. The touch in the above photograph could have been part of a collar tug, or simply a pacifying touch to the neck.
Usually touching the neck equates to stress. The neck is one of our most vulnerable parts of our body and we've always protected the neck from a killing blow from a knife, sword, or blow.
Symbolically, we unconsciously rub the neck when we feel uncomfortable, stressed, or threatened.
What is also interesting how his legs are crossed away from the speaker, and how his other hand is "protecting" his groin area, and also notice how his eye direction does not exactly line up to his face direction.
Not very confident or comfortable, especially since he has chosen a purple tie- the historical color of royalty.◦

Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion Interaction Examined
Thank you Lauren for asking me to take a look at these photos. These two actors are from ABC's show Castle. I get asked to look at photos every couple of weeks, but these were different, because Nathan is a special case. He trims his eyebrows, and how far he opens each eye can differ. While I have never seen the show, after a few clicks on the Internet it is clear he has an impressive resume. Given what I see, it is likely at some point in his life he had a facial injury that damaged a nerve. In his case this works for him, giving him a unique look.

These are a great series of pictures, and they are acting! While they are standing very close, it is an act to appear that they are close. They are not in sync as the photographers are capturing their images. In fact when he says something to get her to laugh, she covers her mouth and looks down (which is usually shame, but may not be in this case) most of the time when someone makes us laugh we look that them, in approval and we are naturally drawn to those who makes us laugh- which is not happening in this situation. Congressman Bob Etheridge Caught In A Physical Confrontation
I would suggest watching the video the first time without the sound on so you can pay closer attention to the non verbal communication occurring between the congressman and student.
This is a video showing a "man" who someone elected to Washington DC, lose his cool...
While walking the congressman does not appear confident, instead he is often looking down at the ground. It could be he is lost in thought, given the irrational reaction to the question what he was thinking about just prior to the confrontation is significant. It is rare for someone who holds a political office to walk with his head pointed towards the ground, and not looking forward.
You can see him display a micro expression of anger (wide eyes and tight lips) right before his face is out of the frame.
It is interesting how he is focusing on the camera instead of the student at this point.
When he has a hold of the student's wrist you can see him display arrogance by lifting his chin and looking down on the student. He is twisting away from the student in a further way to show his dominance and bring the student very close to the him- the student has no option but to move closer to him.
He then jerks his hand to move him even closer, at which time he grabs his neck and pulls him into a side by side hug. You can see the students' hands open up instinctively displaying that he is no threat.◦

Kyron Horman Family Speaks: Why the person who did this will not get away with it! Mistakes were made!
"The search for Kyron Horman entered its fifth day Wednesday as searchers continued to work to find the 7-year-old boy who disappeared after a science fair at his elementary school in a rural area of Portland, Ore." -ABC News
One thing is clear there is real emotion coming through their voices and body language.
From a statement analysis perspective it is clear what is going on here...
The police have asked the family to give these statements. It is also clear the FBI is working with closely with them and is guiding what is being said.
There was a similar case that occurred some 30 years ago in Ohio in a community about 15 miles from Lake Erie; it was a small community and it was clear at the time to the FBI the Perpetrator was someone who was a volunteer and had inserted himself into the investigation and search efforts so he could learn how close they were to determining he had kidnapped the girl.
The investigators are attempting to personalize this by having the family read a statement/note TO Kyron. They have likely told the family it is possible that Kyron may actually hear what they say, if he is still alive. The investigators want to show some of the emotional pain the family is experiencing because if the perpetrator is feeling guilty- adding to it will help them find him. They are looking for changes in behavior and appearances. They are contacting employers to see who has been absent from work since Kyron disappeared.
They also suspect the perpetrator is someone they have already interviewed, this is why they are thanking those that have been interviewed countless times- It allows and explains the need for more and more interviews with the same people. It is interesting he specifically mentions the bus driver, if the bus driver was seen in the school before the science fair in the morning it is very significant. If he was not, this could be a strategy to deflect the direction of their true 'person of interest' such as someone else who worked at the school.
It is likely the perpetrator is someone whom the family members come into contact with on a regular basis, but he is not close to the family, and the family may not even know his actual name. The investigators have probably told the family to carry on with their normal routines (as much as possible) and keep a log of everyone they speak with and come in contact with; it is likely the perpetrator will offer support. It may even be the first time this person has actually spoken with them, but they likely recognize them as someone 'familiar.' When this person speaks with them there will be genuine concern and emotion in his voice, gestures, and message- this is the only time the perpetrator can let his emotion and feelings be shown.
The Prayer Vigil was video taped and investigators were in attendance.
If they do not 'find' him in the next several weeks, they will look closely at anyone who moves away from the community (known to the investigation) in the coming months and years.
This was a crime of opportunity, made possible by the science fair. This does not necessarily mean that the perpetrator was not an employee of the school... it is just as likely- that because of the many visitors to the school that morning- he felt he would not automatically become a suspect.
It is likely the perpetrator was himself a victim of childhood sexual abuse. It is unlikely that the perpetrator has a record. It is likely the perpetrator exercises and takes pride in his appearance.
If Kyron is dead, the perpetrator is bothered and feels guilty about the way he disposed of the body and he wants him to have a proper burial. This will be the largest part of his remorse and guilt and he will think of this often and it will hard for him to accept.
This person has not appeared in interviews or on camera.
The final chilling thought... the person who did this will likely read this post. In the same way he has inserted himself into the investigation, made contact with the family, and has been interviewed... he will seek out any information that may tell him how close they are to finding him. As he reads these sentences he will become agitated and extremely nervous. He will think what mistakes?!?! We will have his IP address, location, Internet service provider, search words used in search engines, etc. and this can be cross referenced with the large database of people that has been created for this case.

Why We Dislike BP Chairman Tony Hayward: Deception, Body Language and Statements
He never gestures, this is unnatural and immediately we subconsciously feel he is holding something back.
He attempts to place inflection on some of the words in the above video, like they coached him or actually underlined them on a teleprompter. This is something a trained actor would have a difficult time accomplishing and pulling off, much less an executive.
At the very end we see (and I mention it for the fist time on this blog) what Ekman has coined the miserable smile... lips pressed together; obviously no action with his eye wrinkles on the outside of his eyes, but also absolutely no sparkle in his eyes. It may be telling that this miserable smile actually begins when he says to keep the emails coming...
Every statement he gives is prepared, and comes off as very unemotional. This is a serious problem when everyone else is emotional, compounded by the fact that the unemotional person is partially responsible.
He always speaks as he if is already testifying in court.
Whenever he does stray from the script -in interviews- he often makes serious blunders. For instance in one interview he actually says that he'd like his life back.
From the start of this ordeal BP has underestimated the amount of oil being released into the gulf, and over and over the estimates from BP all appear to be very low, so when they do make significant, helpful strides, when he says "a majority" of the oil is being captured we are automatically skeptical. We think 51%. BP's statements are automatically perceived as deceptive .
He is completely the wrong person to deliver BP's message for all the above reasons and has proven himself as an ineffective communicator.◦

High Confidence Shown Here; and a Bit of Disgust

Anytime we feel so comfortable to place our hands behind our head as seen in the above picture it is a sign of high confidence. First it is an anti gravity pose; secondly it opens up his torso to the world (and to attack); and lastly whenever we place our bands behind us (as royalty often has, especially behind their backs) it is saying I am completely comfortable.
Notice the lips, they are showing some disgust. I searched online for other pictures of this guy and found a more neutral facial expressions (because some people's lips naturally are formed in a disgust shape) and found the following picture:

Poker Series: Happy Feet
I'm beginning to think that the only people taking the time to learn about body language are poker players. I play the game but usually online, because I like the mathematics of the game and let's just leave it at that.
One of the biggest tells in ANYTHING, not just poker, is happy feet. The feet and legs are the least concentrated part of the body (when people are trying to conceal emotion) and it is where leakage is most likely to occur. Think of a 2-4 year old who just got a new present, he/she cannot stop running in place they are so excited.
Even if you cannot see the feet you can usually tell by looking at slight movements in the shoulders; there is even one professional player who has long hair and every 500-600 hands shows happy feet by a barely perceptible three or four bounces of his hair that lays on his shoulders.
One note of caution for the detective or manager using body language to be better at your job- moving feet or fidgeting feet can signal a desire to remove oneself from the room, or boredom so please take the movement of feet and legs in the context that you observe it.
While playing cards, especially when first looking at dealt cards or after the flop, and... "happy feet are seen or felt- you're not to happy with what is dealt."◦
