Coach Doesn't Like a Question or the Reporter in this Picture

Brazil's national soccer coach Dunga addresses a media conference in Johannesburg, May 27, 2010. The 2010 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11.
Notice how he doesn't turn his head towards the reported, whenever you see the eyes facing a different direction that the head and this position is held for several seconds you know something is up -Could be that they are avoiding something, dislike something, etc. In this case we can see the forehead is tilted downward and there is subtle intensity shown in the eyes. Mouth closed with neutral expression in the lips is also a sign of not wanting to immediately speak, often times , as is the case here he is listening to something he doesn't like or waiting for some negativity.◦

Lasy Gaga Shows Her Teeth in Anger and Upper Lip in Disgust

American pop singer, Lady Gaga arrives at Narita International Airport on April 13, 2010 in Narita, Japan.
Whenever we mimic animal like aggression, like we see here with Lady Gaga showing us her teeth, it is aggressive anger and showing she is willing to lash out and fight. Her left hand is even forming a claw...
A nice snarl.◦

Balloon Boy's Dad Doesn't Like What He Has Just Heard
Mayumi and Richard Heene (R) wait after hearing their respective sentences at the Larimer County Justice Center after sentencing in their Balloon Boy hoax in district court on December 23, 2009 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Richard Heene received 90 days jail time (30 days in jail and 60 days in work release) and four years probation. Mayumi Heene received four years probation and 20 days jail time.
This is the clearest example of someone not liking what they are hearing, and he subconsciously places his hand in front of his mouth.◦

Covering Our Mouth When Laughing

This is most often done subconsciously when we are laughing at something we feel we should not being laughing at, like another person. We are attempting to suppress the laugh or socially trying to not make the other person feel any worse.
In past eras it was considered rude for a women to laugh in public, so it was often seen with embarrassment.◦

Fingers in the Mouth
When you see fingers in the mouth you are seeing either:
1) A sexual gesture
2) The person is under pressure and it is an unconscious attempt to provide comfort, security, and reassurance. It reverts back to the time when we were babies. The meaning is the same even if it is not a finger, but a cigarette, cigar, pens, straws, etc.

Holding Emotions In...
Nov 10 2009
Army Spc. Chas Clark, who was wounded during a previous attack in Afghanistan, speaks on behalf of Spc. Jared Stanker, one of seven U.S. Army soldiers honored during a memorial service at Fort Lewis, Washington, Tuesday, November 10, 2009. The soldiers were killed by an IED in Afghanistan on October 27, 2009.
Take a look at the soldier in the background who is holding his hand in front of his mouth. I often see this immediately after a stressful or violent episode, here we see the soldier feeling internal stress and subconsciously he is controlling emotion.
Our mouths are the source of sound and it is the way we communicate. Subconciously we cover our mouths to control the emotion...even though there is not a direct correlation between our mouths and emotions... it does work.◦

Finger in Front of His Mouth
Robert Kelly of Bank of New York joins executives from the financial institutions who received TARP funds testifying before the House Financial Services Committee about how the the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) funds were used on Capitol Hill in Washington on February 11, 2009.
This is a gesture that needs to be evaluated in the context of the interaction.
If he just has spoken it could mean that hes has been deceitful.
It could mean that he is signaling that he is done talking and he is turning over the conversation to another, the same as placing an entire hand in front of your mouth.
If he is listening to others speak this could be a sign he does like what he is hearing, it looks like a backward gesture used to tell another to be quiet.◦

Hell's Kitchen Listeners Covering Their Mouth Last Night
Last Night on Hell's Kitchen the three final contestants had to create an international dish and during the presentation to international master chefs we can see the several of chefs place their hands in front of the mouth when the contestants stumble or have difficulties speaking with them.
When we are listening to others speak and we place a hand covering our mouth we can do it for a couple of reasons...
- We are signalling the other person to speak and we may be unwilling to speak, which is not the case in this situation.
- We are uncomfortable with what we are hearing, which is the case in this situation. Subconsciously they are attempting to hold back the contestants words.

A Young Woman Blows a Kiss

Blowing a kiss is of course to signify a true kiss; since no actual touch occurs it can be open for interpretation depending on the situation.
I have seen it used as an insult, as if saying "kiss off" to someone not a friend.
I have also seen used by lovers that are separated by distance and obstacles like in an airport after one of them has gone through screening.
I have also seen it used by a flirt, who was sending a clear signal that a kiss in the future would be okay with her.◦

New SNL Cast Member Jenny Slate Swears On Live TV on Last's Week Show
What is note worthy about this, is watch Jenny's reaction after she realizes what has just happened.
Her lips move together in a kissing pose, she is attempting to make her lips and the opening of her mouth as small as possible, she is holding her breathe, then exhales to relieve stress and it puffs her checks out, still not wanting to allow anything else out of her mouth.◦

The Forefinger Blow or Lips Touch

This has now become the widespread gesture meaning to be quiet.
Saudi Arabia is the origins of this gesture, where they would simply blow air out. Along the way it adapted to include the 'sho' like sound.◦
