Subtle Expression Recognition Training Review of Humintell’s SubX Professional

I have great news for those of us who study facial expressions in real life scenarios.

Here is what is said on the Humintell’s website, “Recent research suggests that learning subtle expressions may be especially important for people who want to get better at detecting deception.

“Learning to be able to identify subtle expressions and microexpressions could improve your ability to detect deception beyond what you might be able to do by chance – to an accuracy rate of 70% or more.”

Subtle Expressions occur when an emotion is first beginning. They also occur when someone is trying to suppress any sign of how they are feeling.

I used the old SETT program that was available via CD-ROM and I was good at detecting subtle expressions, but it wasn’t until doing the online training with the SubX Professional that something just clicked and I can more easily detect subtle expressions in everyday life.

The key is in the delicate differences of subtle expressions from each of the core emotions and their expressions. There are several distinct ways a person could show subtle sadness and it always doesn’t equal just a half version of the full micro expression of sadness.

Every couple of minutes I am rewarded with even clearer understanding of people’s feelings thereby understanding them more- and this is with years of subtle expression training under my belt. It is a testament to how well the training works and translates to the real world.

I have personally spent over 3 ½ hours using the training program in the last month or so and just recently went from being certified as ‘proficient’ to an ‘expert’ (on the fastest speed) and the founder of the company Dr. David Matsumoto, said on Twitter even he can’t get 100%.

As Paul Hogan said in Crocodile Dundee, “...now that’s a knife.”

I can now say, “Now that is a training tool!”

i have bought since two days +additional images training, the fatest speed is difficult on practice, but i have the expert on
it in two hours because i have memorize the very difficult faces, ihave done mett2 just after on 84 faces and i found it was very easy 99% cause the max speed on subx.
why they don't use a huge database of a minimum 7 expressions for each person.I have a doubt of efficient and it's expensive too, because i memorize the faces with the expression.i have 100% on mett and sett too, and very average qi.But "the mind reading" cd rom is great software and huge database with 4500 expressions videos and very cheap in comparison and a good add-on.

While you could memorize some of the faces and the expression, there are several different faces used for several differnt expressions. This training programs has so many more different people than previous software that it just doesn't seem worth the challenge and it is better to be in the moment. Remember it is not getting a great score on a test, it is being able to spot them in real life that makes the training worthwhile.

john you are right, and this software is the best i have done (happy), but in "real" life many people have no micro or subtles expressions the most is cultural macroexpression (identification to a film, family)i think and it is very hard to understand why they had when it is appears in the context, often it is sadness fear and anger when they walk, i think there is too much "mental pollution" in their head...like the world.

It is true there are facial expressions that define regions and areas; while it has not been studied, since I travel often I often see face shapes that seem to be from certain regions; I have to believe it is in large part genetics but also the common expressions that over the years define facial muscle size, strength, etc.

I see contempt almost every day- thankfully not directed to me- but to their talking points... When I had first learned how to detect I was a bit disappointed that I didn't see them all that often and was rewarded one day when I saw my first full fear microexpression, and I was thinking that people show more of certain expressions, then it dawned on me that I am not seeing them all, but sometimes they are so faint it is difficult to notice, like fear in just a little tightning of the forehead muscles, or joy in the slightest of upturned corner of the mouths. I'm going to write about this in the next month and give some tips for seeing more of them... In fact last night I saw a microexpression that I never saw before, in fact the gesture was not even defined in books, i'll write about that to. In one of Ekman's books he shows 6 pictures, to an untrained eye that would all look neutral, but they each are subtle expressions, it is a challenge. The more time you look for them, even when they appear to not be there, the more easier it is to see them...

Is there any research combining personology with facial expressions?

i have a question … subtle expressions are brief like micro expressions ? or subtle expressions can stay more time on face ?

Subtle expressions are when only part of an expression is shown on the face. For instance, full fear is a widening of the eyes and tighness in the lips- the subtle expression is when only one of the two is shown. It becomes harder to determine the emotion behind the expression because widening of the eyes could either be fear or surprise, that is why we call it subtle- you are looking for small clues in the face to determine if it is in fact fear or surprise.
