Melzer of Austria reacts (subtle surpise, antigravity, and pacifying) during his match against Nadal of Spain at the Shanghai Masters...
Jurgen Melzer of Austria reacts during his match against Rafael Nadal of Spain at the Shanghai Masters tennis tournament October 14, 2010. Melzer won the match.
This is one of the better pictures in sports. Subtle surprise shown with his dropping of his jaw and mouth open; Anti gravity reaction by lifting his arms up; and pacifying by placing his racket on his head. Whenever I see a picture with this much going on, it is definitely a pic worth a thousand words.◦

Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva gestures as he talks to the audience during the inauguration of a drop-in rehabilitation clinic in Sao Bernardo do Campo near Sao Paulo October 1, 2010.
When we place our hand(s) directly over our heart we are showing that we care about what we are talking about.◦

Touching the Ear (or Around the Ear) and What it Means
Writer Ken Auletta speaks at the 2010 New Yorker Festival at SVA Theatre 2 on October 2, 2010 in New York City.
If we are touching around the ear while we are speaking it could mean we do not like what we are saying- or what we have to say.
If we are listening, it means we do not like what is being said.
The science about it is the ear (and nose) it is very thin, and when we are bothered, the nerve ending can become exited and subconsciously we often reach for the ear so the nerve ending do not bother us- it is a pacifying touch.

Bishop Eddie Long Bishop Eddie Long Video and Video of Accuser
Ga. Pastor Accuser: 'I'm Praying for Bishop
I see a man who is speaking freely, gesturing freely, not becoming emotional and without changes in his pitch and tone- all signs of honesty. There is nothing in his choice of words that is a hot spot from a statement analysis standpoint. He is speaking without any signs of deception.
He is nervous at times and stumbles on his words at one point. The stumbling simply means he was thinking at the same time he is talking. Being nervous in itself does not mean he is guilty. He does a few pacifying lip licks. He also fiddles with his books/papers often lifting them with no apparent reason, as if to place a barrier between himself and his congregation. I find it particularly troubling that he does not flat out say he didn't do these things. What he does say is, he is not perfect- This is a huge hot spot. Innocent people do not admit any guilt, they have no reason to admit anything and feel a certain amount of confidence in their innocence... I find his metaphor a bit odd, he feels like the underdog, why would you feel like the underdog if you did nothing wrong?!?! If we look at his normal style as a flamboyant energetic preacher, wouldn't he use this 'injustice' of being falsely accused to rally public support by saying I did not do these things and pray for the misguided souls who are doing something so very painful to me, my family, my church, in his unmistakable loud style. Let me put it another way, if someone accused me of these things, since I would never morally do these things, I would be very vocal about being falsely accused.
Whenever someone is accused of something and they become more mellow and subdued, it is a hot spot. In courtrooms people charged with crimes who are obviously guilty are subdued and mellow, they have given up the fight and are just going through the motions. We saw this with Martha Stewart's trial, where she stoically sat day after day, showing no emotion.◦

Bishop Eddie Long Bishop Eddie Long Video and Video of Accuser
The Republican nominee for New York governor got into a heated argument with a newspaper reporter.
This fuzzy video shows The New York Post's State Editor Fred Dicker was involved in a confrontation with Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino outside a Business Council of New York State dinner in Bolton Landing last night.
What is interesting here is the level of emotion the reporter is showing from the start of the exchange; fingers pointing upward then more towards each other; you can see Paladino with enjoyment on his face, then after he begins talking you can see anger.◦

It is Monday Night and We All Miss It: Lie to Me Season 2 DVD
I haven't really talked about Lie to Me this season; simply because it has matured.
All the science is still there, it is just not so professorial and teaching the viewer every step of the way like the first season did- which is great for those of us that understand more than the average person about the science.
For the beginner it means there are still plenty of learning opportunities, you just need to rewind the show after someone from the Lightman Group states "you're lying" or "you're not sad," and then review the facial expression or nonverbal clue that led to their statement and conclusion(s).
Order your copy today, because if you are interested in anything I write about on this site then you are interested in this show!

Even with a Full Face Veil, You Can See Her Emotion

A Muslim woman takes part in a demonstration by the Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir against France's banning of full face veils from public spaces, outside the French Embassy in London September 25, 2010. France is on a course to become the first European country to outlaw the burqa after the measure passed its final legislative hurdle last week.
See how you can see the whites of her eyes on both sides of her pupils; this is a clear sign she is engaged. Since there is no widening of her eyelids we can be sure that she is neither surprised or showing fear. While we do not see the lines forming on the outside of her eyes that normally show us a true smile, I would call this a subtle expression of happiness/joy- there is something in the shape of the inner corners of her eyes that lead me to believe this; while I do not know the neutral shape of her face- knowing that a smile widens the face and can bring the cheek bones up- there is nothing that suggests she is not smiling underneath the veil.◦

Sarah Brown is Very Comfortable With the Receiver of this Hug
Britain's former prime minister Gordon Brown arrives with his wife Sarah (R) at the Labour Party's annual conference in Manchester September 25, 2010. Britain's opposition Labour Party, after spending months licking its wounds over an election defeat, elects a new leader on Saturday who will seek to step up pressure on the government over its deep public spending cuts.
When we hug someone in a social setting it is not ordinary to close our eyes- so when we see someone close their eyes it is a clear sign they are comfortable.
From an emotional standpoint we ordinarily close our eyes- when touching someone else- to block out visual distraction so we can fully engulf ourselves in the sensation and comfort the touch provides.◦
