The Neck Rub

Man rubbing his neck

"What a pain in the neck."

It is a sign of frustration, anger, or stress depending on the context.

If you are friends or work with someone who habitually rubs their neck it is a sign of negative and critical personality, be warned.◦

What if someone suffers from medical issues of the neck or spine? Do you think that is a fair assessment? I personally dislike blanket statements like this because it makes innocent, harmless un-angry people get labeled inappropriately.

To make this more valuable to people, I recommend looking for other signs of anger, of which we could not use tension as a signal, before jumping to this conclusion!

Stress will cause people to react the same way.

Just food for thought.

True, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, as they say. You bring up an important point I do not stress often enough, it is always better to look for clusters of gestures than using one gesture as a definitive sign. As with anything it "could" mean and it may be worth further exploring...

I feel like Lightman and Torres, now that is an idea for some future postings technical/wizard perspective on the same video…
