Royal Wedding: Prince Albert of Monaco and his Now Wife, Charlene... Where's the Love?

Well it was a wedding, but it seemed very strange to me. They did not seem to be in love, or at all happy during what is supposed to be "the most wonderful day of their life."

Charlene's tears are real, but are they happy or sad tears? Happy tears usually occur when a person is overwhelmed with intense emotion- these are sad tears.

Take a look at this video of their kiss, even this is strained.◦

Casey Anthony Trial: Crying Real Emotion This Morning?

Is it real? Is she faking emotion? Is she showing a "cry face?"

I never saw actual tears, she wiped her right eye more than the left, and wiped her nose as much as her right eye.  This is unusual. Normally we cry tears equally in both eyes, and for there to be nasal discharge there would be a great deal of crying.

Furthermore she begins wiping her eyes from the corner and along the bottom of the eyelash and outward beyond the eyelash- suggesting there would be a large tear for there to still be moisture, most people wipe the cheek, especially women with eye makeup along the bottom of their eye lash.

The "cry face" has two basic styles:
  • Extreme stress in the forehead and/or between the eyebrows, lifting of the cheeks and opening of the mouth to some degree.
  • The solemn cry is where there is little or no movement in any facial muscles, usually done when emotionally drained.
Why do we cry? Sadness, stress, even intense 'good' emotions.  All these emotions produce chemicals in the body and crying is a way to put the body in balance.  These emotions can, and often spill over into other parts of the body, hand trembles, movement in the legs, shifting of the torso.  These types of emotions also ebb and flow at varying levels through the body- With Casey we do not see any changes, and she appears like a statute except to wipe her ears or her nose...  If she was experiencing emotion we would expect to see some shifting, movement in her forehead or eyes.

It is extremely unlikely she was crying real tears, and the emotion was faked.

Police Video: Dalia Dippolito Case

Police started an investigation July 31 after a tipster informed them that the woman, was trying to have her husband killed.

An undercover police officer posing as a hit man met with Dippolito. Police taped the meetings.

At the faked crime scene, Dippolito sobbed, appearing inconsolable with grief. But Michael Dippolito wasn't dead; he was hidden away as investigators showed his wife a fake crime scene before arresting her.

They taped the notification, do you see any hotspots?◦

More to Love: Episode Four

Melissa and Lauren are sent home.

Wow are the producers/editors reading my blog?!?!? My techie is telling me there are a larger number of people from LA hitting the site. A larger part of my work is becoming consulting in the entertainment business so no biggie. I told him I didn't care and don't do the ip look up thingy...

Last week I made some big statements,

"They will be gone and they know it, Kristian and Danielle." I guess you can have a ring and still be gone, where was Kristian in this episode? Her minutes drastically cut!

and

"Where does Luke stand in all this? A big cardboard cutout could stand in for him." This week we see him emerge (slightly).

Onto the non verbals of this episode:

Good Wife/Bad Wife

Perhaps this clip will make it into some of my training materials. We have so much emotion. Role playing. Pacifying behavior. Subtle surprise. Truth. Head tilts. Shoulder shrugs. Eye movement. Non asymmetrical mouth positions. Sadness. Happiness and True smiles. Pursed lips. Eye direction clues. One shoulder shrug. Head tilts. Hand pointing. Social smiles. Nods. Anger. Face touching. Perverse pleasure at the expense of others pain. Watch and learn from this five minute clip showing more nonverbal and body language clues that I have ever seen in any reality TV show!

Greetings
Last week I mentioned, "Look at the greetings, it will be the best indication of the relationship. Excitement seen here is important."

Who wins?

Melissa's Greeting

Heather's Greeting

More Thoughts

Mandy clearly is showing much more emotion than she has this season. Luke is not an emotional guy, but I hear and see some things in this exchange that lead me to believe that Luke has a way to go:

- Luke does not show any emotion when she expresses 'calling a boyfriend' and shows non verbal clues that he is not planning on choosing her (sigh, mouth).
- Luke says, "It is going to get more difficult, not just for me, but for you" is a warning for her. Listen to the his voice. "not just for me" is said softer- it will not be as difficult for him as it will be for her.

True Emotion: 2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldiers Return To Ft. Carson...

2nd Brigade Combat Team Soldiers Return To Ft. Carson After 1 Year In Iraq

FORT CARSON, CO - AUGUST 18: Sherie Whiteside watches as her grandson Spc. Travis Loomis and fellow U.S. Army soldiers arrive on August 18, 2009 to Fort Carson, Colorado. Her son and Travis' father Greg Loomis was killed while working as contracter in Iraq just over a year before. Approximately 575 soldiers from the 2nd Brigade Combat team from the 4th Infantry Division returned Tuesday following a 12 month deployment to Iraq. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images)

Hand unconsciously placed over the heart signifies true emotional feelings of love, warmth, and/or caring- all depending on the situation.

Mouth blocking is done when we do not want to do something (such as show our amusement at the expense of others, show surprise or fear, talk, scream or shout out, or laughing in older people) in this case it is much more... it is to hold all emotion back.

This is one of the rare photographs where (subtle expression training is all important in spotting this) where the eyes are showing sadness and the mouth is showing happiness.

It is rare to express emotions on opposite ends of the continuum, at the same time.

The Body Language of Depression and Suicide

There are many sites listing the behavioral clues to depression, and if you are concerned about someone you know please search out this information.

My goal here are to list several common body language signs so that they can be tracked over time to help you determine if things are worsening.

FACE
In the face, in full blown sadness ,you will see lowered inner eyebrows, droopy eye lids, lowered outer lips.

In subtle sadness you could see raised inner eyebrows, protruding lower lip, eye blocking.

Research has shown that facial sadness is one of the easier emotions to determine.

BODY
In body language you could see lower shoulders, arms hanging down, head tilted to the side, lazy posture, and lack of gestures- it as if they are saying and/or conveying 'why bother' non verbally.

The gestures you will see will be pacifying in nature. Rubbing of hands, neck, face... You can judge the extent they are willing to share their pain by how open their gestures are- for instance if they are rubbing their face or over their heart. It doesn't necessarily mean they will share - as the mind and body do not always agree with each other.

Emotions that are related to depression could be shame, defeat, contempt, pain, guilt are among a few.

You must evaluate the nonverbal signals in the context of the root cause. For example, while it is normal to suffer a certain about of depression after the death of a loved one, we must evaluate the enormity of it over time and to what degree it appears different from the norm.

If you see depression in those around you, seek guidance from trained professionals.◦

Stop the Crying Already... Besides You're Not Really Crying

This is something you got to learn to detect, and perhaps is the easiest to detect. It is so unnatural.

Video One:
Investigators were trying to locate a schoolteacher, Leah Walsh who went missing after calling her husband to say her car had broken down with a flat tire on the side of a Long Island highway, in October of 2008.

Click here to view the video

Several Things do not add up and are strange about the husband, as he pleads for her return, and she can have his car, and with the crying and a quick snap out of that emotional state.

Video Two:

At 1:10 into the video Ronald Cummings cries and pleads for his daughter, Haleigh Cummings return.

There are quite some differnces in crying styles seen in the video. With Ron there are no tears, holds facial expression too long which is a sign of a forced emotion (unless he is in a full sadness with tears and tension in other parts of the face like others in the video do show).

There are many more examples, such as Susan Smith's plea for her kids return and I have seen this in countless other spouses and parents.

If you hear this constructed "emotion" be warned something is not right about the situation, and they are acting... badly acting.◦
